Weddings in the Cayman Islands

For those who are handling the usual holiday hustle and bustle in addition to planning your wedding, I hope that each Monday you’re taking a ‘zen moment’ to consider our fabulous honeymoon hot spots! Speaking of which, no matter where you are today, it’s likely that there’s a chill in the air! I know I’d rather be soaking up the sun in the tropics, but I’ll just have to settle for sharing a gorgeous Caribbean oasis with you on today’shoneymoon blog– Georgetown, Grand Cayman.

Swaying coconut palms and white sand beaches meet the sparkling azure ocean waters in this island lovers’ paradise. Adventure seekers and romantics alike will find that Georgetown offers something for everyone to enjoy! You’ll find everything from simple condo rentals, just steps from the sand, to luxury accommodations in the large resorts on the island, upscale shopping, both local cuisine and international fine dining, and many interesting cultural and ecological activities. Bring your snorkeling or diving equipment if you’re an enthusiast, you won’t believe your eyes when you see all of the underwater delights that the Caymans’ wrecks and reefs have in store!

While you’re in Georgetown, plan a trip (for a few hours at most– this one doesn’t take long, but it’s pretty neat) to the sea turtle farm, where you can observe, pet, and even hold (baby) sea turtles at this turtle preserve and breeding sanctuary. I would also recommend a stop at one of the island’s rum cake factories where you can sample and purchase different flavors of this delicious treat.

Georgetown, Grand Cayman is not only one of the most beautiful locales in the Caribbean, but it’s also one of the most convenient for American travelers. With English as the official language of the Caymans, communication with the kind and friendly locals is a breeze. The islands also have a low crime rate and do not allow street vendors, so there is a comfortable and safe atmosphere to shop and dine leisurely in the city’s resort and retail areas.

For couples looking to plan an exotic island wedding, the Cayman Islands offers something few destinations can match…exquisite natural beauty infused with civility and commitment. The result is a sort of “barefoot elegance” that promises to make your special day truly remarkable. Whether you’re planning a grand, sophisticated church wedding for 200, or an intimate beachfront ceremony for two - Grand CaymanLittle Cayman and Cayman Brac afford the locales, activities and attractions to make your experience larger than life. With a host of wedding professionals ready to help you with everything from floral arrangements to legal requirements, tying the knot in this corner of the Caribbean could not be easier.

An unforgettable ceremony
The size and scope of a Cayman Islands’ wedding ceremony is limited only by the imagination. Couples can opt for a traditional wedding in a quaint chapel, stately church or luxury resort. To add a bit of Caymanian flavour, consider marrying amidst the pageantry of the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, beneath the gazebo at the Grand Old House, (a stately 1900’s plantation manor), or overlooking the azure waters of the Caribbean on the grounds of Pedro St. James – the birthplace of Caymanian democracy.

For a more intimate ceremony, couples can choose to marry on a stretch of sugar white sand along famed Seven Mile Beach, or just above the enchanting crystal clear water on the pier at legendary Rum Point.

Seafarers can choose to marry aboard a luxurious catamaran, or replica 17th century galleon as it takes to sea on a spectacular sunset cruise.

Those couples arriving by cruise may choose any of the above, or instead, opt for a portside wedding along the cobblestone streets of historic George Town – the Cayman Island’s capital.

However and wherever you choose to tie the knot, you’ll find a venue ready, willing and able to fulfill your desires.

The perfect reception
Once the ceremony ends…the celebration begins, and Cayman, as you’ll quickly discover, holds the high art of celebrating most sacred. Regale your guests with a scrumptious gourmet meal at any of Cayman’s world class restaurants. Bask in the awe-inspiring luxury and beauty of one of Grand Cayman’s resorts, or simply slip off your shoes and revel in the sounds of a steel drum band on a deserted stretch of sun-drenched beach. As dusk turns to night, let the party continue aboard a sunset cruise on a secluded deck – overlooking the sea or in the festive atmosphere of one of Grand Cayman’s exhilarating nightclubs.

Completely Caymanian
From the smiling faces you’ll meet to the delectable dishes you’ll sample, you’re sure to find strong reminders of Cayman’s hospitality and heritage everywhere you turn. Yet there are a few times each year when Caymanian culture truly jumps to the forefront. Be sure to visit during the world-renowned Pirate’s Week celebration held each fall. Or strut your stuff with the costumed street musicians of Batabano, Cayman Carnival. You’ll also find scores of culinary and music festivals, including the Cayman Cook-Out (an epicurean event sponsored by Food & Wine magazine and the Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman) and the Cayman jazzfest, as well as a myriad of other local celebrations throughout the year.

Couples’ words on Cayman
Here’s what some of the couples who have recently wed in the Cayman Islands had to say about their experience:

“We wanted to split our time between luxury resort/fine dining and small island adventure. We heard the beaches were great and they really were.
– Emily Ann Jones & Farid Slatni, Paris, France

“In short, the wedding was perfect. Easy to plan and our guests got to share a little slice of paradise with us. Everyone who attended had a spectacular experience.”
– Morgan & Brian Collins, Berwyn, PA.

“To be honest, we had never been to the Cayman Islands, nor did we know anyone who had. But once we saw The Grand Old House as a venue and learned a bit more about the islands, we were captivated.”
– Jessica and Ryan Buck, San Francisco, CA.

“Our Cayman wedding planner brought our ideas to life, working within our budget and what was in our best interest.”
– Tara & Claudio Adamos New York, NY
“About 15 of us chartered a boat and spent the day at Stingray City. We got some great video footage and pictures, and everyone still says, “Remember how much fun that was?”
– Kelly & Mitchell Skovmose, Burlington, Ontario

“The relaxed way of life in the island is infectious. What could have been a stressful experience turn out to truly be the best day of our lives.”
– Maria & Simon Perry, Kent, England

OK, so when you saw the title ”Cayman Islands” with the word “Winter” you might scratch your head.  After all, winter to us folks who live in Cayman consists of the chilly temperature of 75 degrees and a gorgeous breeze nicknamed the “Christmas Breeze”.  Anyway, where am I going with this…

Today I was walking in Camana Bay town center and loved the holiday decoration they have up.  The town is dressed in blue, silver, and white  bringing winter to this fab island and thus, inspiring this story board.  Enjoy!
